A Rehabus driver lost his life after being hit by a car when he got off the bus to check the rear of the vehicle in Sha Tin. It is reported that the driver responsible for the incident was previously involved in a hit-and-run earlier the same day.
The accident occurred at 8.21am on Yuen Chau Kok Road, where the Rehabus was parked. The 50-year-old male driver had exited the bus to inspect the lift platform at the rear of the vehicle when he was struck by a BMW.
The bus driver was trapped between the private car and his rehabilitation bus. The force of the collision pushed the Rehabus forward by at least one parking space, leaving the front of the BMW severely damaged.
The Rehabus driver succumbed to his injuries after being rushed to the Prince of Wales Hospital.
The 50-year-old BMW driver, surnamed Tam, also sustained injuries and was sent to hospital in a conscious state.
Tam is said to be involved in another hit-and-run case on the same day, as he scraped a taxi parked nearby Yi Shing Square before driving away.
He was later arrested for careless driving, failing to stop after an accident, failing to report after an accident and dangerous driving causing death and is being detained for enquiries.
