The Hong Kong torch relay for the 15th National Games lit up the city this week, when nine representatives from The Hong Kong Jockey Club were among the torchbearers carrying the flame. The Club’s CARE@hkjc Volunteer Team also participated, cheering on torchbearers along the relay route, further showcasing the Club’s support for the Games.
Club Chairman The Hon Martin Liao (Photo 1) was one of the torchbearers, carrying the flame along the promenade in Central, while Chief Executive Officer Winfried Engelbrecht-Bresges (Photo 2) bore the torch towards the final stretch at Kai Tak.
Two legs of the relay were run by groups, one of which comprised representatives from the Club. First home-grown jockey Vincent Ho (Photo 3) was principal torchbearer of the group, carrying the flame in Tsim Sha Tsui and supported by six other Club representatives from various divisions.
As sole Partner Sponsor of the Hong Kong Competition Region, the Club has committed over HK$500 million to support the 15th National Games, 12th National Games for Persons with Disabilities and 9th National Special Olympic Games in the Hong Kong and Guangdong Competition Regions. Additionally, the Club is sponsoring the Hong Kong Sports Institute to provide cash incentives to medal winners under the Jockey Club Athlete Incentive Awards Scheme.
