A motorcyclist was injured after colliding with a van that changed lanes on Tsing Kwai Highway on Sunday evening, with dashcam footage of the incident sparking online criticism.
The footage shows a black van merging at a highway convergence area and hitting a motorcycle traveling ahead on its right side. The impact sent the rider and motorcycle tumbling to the ground, scattering vehicle parts across the road.
The video sparked heated online discussions, with many netizens condemning the van driver's reckless driving. Some comments described the incident as "virtually murder" and called for severe penalties, while others suggested the driver's view might have been blocked by the vehicle's A-pillar.
Police confirmed the accident occurred at 7:33pm when the van, traveling toward the New Territories direction near Princess Margaret Hospital, allegedly changed lanes and hit the motorcycle.
The 37-year-old motorcyclist, surnamed Law, sustained hand and leg injuries but remained conscious while being transported to Princess Margaret Hospital. The 52-year-old van driver, surnamed Wai, was unharmed.
