Police have arrested a 22-year-old man and seized drugs worth over HK$19 million during a raid on a drug storage facility in Hung Hom on Monday.
During the operation yesterday afternoon, officers intercepted a man outside a subdivided flat on Ma Tau Wai Road, finding 3 grams of suspected methamphetamine, commonly known as “ice”, on him.
They subsequently took him back to the unit for a search, where they discovered approximately 36 kilograms of suspected methamphetamine and a batch of suspected drug packaging equipment.
Officers also found 18 cartridges containing suspected liquefied etomidate and about 4 grams of suspected cocaine in the man’s parked vehicle nearby.
The arrested man, who reported being unemployed, is believed to have been enticed by drug trafficking groups to commit the crime for quick cash, earning hundreds to thousands of dollars per transaction.
He is expected to face three counts of “trafficking in dangerous drugs”, with the case scheduled to be heard at the Kowloon City Magistrates' Court on Thursday (Oct 30).
Investigations revealed that the drug storage facility had been in operation for a short time, and the police believed they had successfully intercepted a significant batch of drugs before it could enter the market.
