A white sedan’s catastrophic crash on Fanling Highway last Saturday left its driver injured, but the quick actions of an animal volunteer who stopped to render aid have captured widespread admiration online after dashcam footage of the incident was shared on Monday.
Two days ago, a white sedan careened out of control on Fanling Highway near Wo Hop Shek Tsuen while heading toward Yuen Long, smashing into water barriers, flipping in the air, and spinning wildly before stopping across the road.
The male driver, suffering a hand injury, remained conscious and was rushed to a hospital by ambulance.
On October 27, an animal volunteer shared a gripping 1-minute-48-second dashcam video on the Facebook page “Turtle’s Inn,” showing the car’s violent collision and his immediate response, earning widespread praise from netizens.
The volunteer, driving to address an abandoned turtle case in Fanling North New Development Area, was traveling on Route 9 near the Fanling exit when he witnessed the crash.
Water sprayed as the car struck multiple barriers, scattering debris across the highway. He stopped his vehicle, rushed to check the driver’s condition, and found a 30-centimeter open wound on the driver’s right forearm.
He moved the driver to safety, administered first aid, and dragged water barriers 50 meters to secure the scene, ensuring no further collisions.
Reflecting on the incident, he expressed disappointment that no other drivers stopped to help, noting the shattered windshield and deployed airbags may have obscured the driver’s condition.
He urged others to learn first aid, emphasizing that more victims could have been trapped, and called for people to assist in emergencies when safe.
The online community lauded the volunteer’s compassion, with many describing his actions as a beacon of humanity in an indifferent world.
Commenters expressed admiration for his selflessness, with some inspired to enroll in first aid courses, citing the importance of being prepared to help in crises.
