The meeting covered critical topics shaping the shipping sector, including its transformation, decarbonization efforts, economic shifts, and geopolitical dynamics.
Both sides explored the latest industry developments, with Seaspan affirming its commitment to maintaining its operational footprint in Hong Kong.
The company praised the city’s efficient ship registry services and confirmed plans to keep its Hong Kong-registered fleet and local office at their current scale, signaling confidence in the city’s maritime strengths.
Seaspan also expressed eagerness to deepen ties with the Hong Kong government to advance the region’s shipping industry.
Chan highlighted Hong Kong’s consistent ranking as the world’s fourth-leading international shipping center for six consecutive years, a status fueled by its ability to attract diverse global shipping firms.
She outlined government initiatives from the latest Policy Address aimed at reinforcing this position, such as forging an international port network, streamlining ship registration laws for greater flexibility, promoting green fuel bunkering and trade, and enhancing Hong Kong’s role as a platform for global maritime exchange.
These measures, she noted, are designed to solidify the city’s competitive edge in a rapidly changing industry.
The Transport and Logistics Bureau emphasized its commitment to closely monitoring global trends and collaborating with international shipping stakeholders to navigate geopolitical shifts and seize emerging opportunities.
