Law Society of Hong Kong president Roden Tong Man-lung is leading a delegation to London for the Opening of the Legal Year 2025 in England and Wales, marking his second visit to the United Kingdom since taking office.
The Law Society of Hong Kong is an independent statutory body representing more than 13,000 members and 900 law firms and is tasked with upholding the highest professional standards of the legal profession.
The trip began on September 29 with a meeting between the Hong Kong delegation and senior representatives of the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA), which oversees more than 200,000 solicitors and 9,000 law firms in England and Wales.
Discussions with SRA chief executive Paul Philip and executive director Liz Rosser focused on evolving legal practice structures — from limited liability partnerships to the ground-breaking authorisation of the first AI-driven law firm, Garfield.law — underscoring a shared commitment to regulatory excellence and innovation.
Looking ahead, the Law Society announced it will host the International Conference of Legal Regulators (ICLR) in Hong Kong from October 20 to 22, 2025.
The landmark event, aimed at advancing global discussions on excellence and innovation in the legal profession, is expected to draw more than 60 regulators from 19 jurisdictions.
Liz Rosser is slated to speak at the conference on the critical topic of cybersecurity.
Positioned as a key platform for international collaboration, the ICLR is set to further cement Hong Kong’s role as a global leader in legal regulation.
