At around 2pm, residents of Choi Ming Court, located at 3B Choi Ming Street in Tseung Kwan O, alerted authorities after detecting a foul smell emanating from one of the units.
Police and emergency responders arrived promptly, and firefighters forced entry into the apartment.
Inside, they discovered a 76-year-old woman, surnamed Kwong, lying deceased in the living room.
Paramedics confirmed her death at the scene, noting that her body showed signs of decomposition.
No suicide note or suspicious items were found, and the cause of death is pending an autopsy.
According to sources, Kwong had lived alone in the apartment since 2002. She had no known chronic illnesses and was capable of caring for herself.
Her son, who relocated to the United Kingdom three years ago, stated that he had not been in contact with his mother for several years and was unaware of her health status.
Police inquiries with neighbors revealed that Kwong was last seen in August this year, with no apparent abnormalities reported at the time.
