Hong Kong’s unique role as a convergence point for global and China-related advantages was being promoted by Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury Christopher Hui Ching-yu at a high-level roundtable conference in Ljubljana, Slovenia.
The conference was hosted by the Ministry of Finance of Slovenia, and gathered ministers of finance from Croatia, Estonia and Slovenia, along with financial leaders and experts.
During his remarks, Hui emphasized Hong Kong’s strategic position as a key gateway linking traditional and emerging markets.
He shared notable figures to underscore the city’s robust market activity: “Just for the first eight months this year, we had 59 companies newly listed in our stock market of 2025, raising a total of EUR14.6 billion through IPOs (initial public offerings) and marking an upsurge of 579 per cent when compared to the same period last year.”
“If you look at the net fund inflows from the Chinese Mainland to Hong Kong, we are talking about a sum close to EUR105.4 billion for the first eight months of 2025. Its turnover is equivalent to 24.5 percent of our market’s overall turnover and surpassing the historical annual levels,” he added.
Hui further referenced the latest Policy Address, which outlines targeted measures to strengthen the capital market and spur new economic growth.
Later, at a business event hosted by Gospodarska zbornica Slovenije (GZS), Slovenia’s largest chamber of commerce and industry, Hui encouraged Slovenian businesses to leverage Hong Kong as an ideal platform for accessing Asian and mainland markets.
The GZS is set to lead a business delegation to Hong Kong and mainland in early November, with over 50 companies already registered.
Hui expressed confidence that the visit would offer Slovenian firms valuable firsthand insight into opportunities and looked forward to strengthening collaboration.
