An out-of-control barge crashed into the Hung Hom waterfront on Wednesday as Super Typhoon Ragasa battered Hong Kong, causing a crane to collapse and significant damage to coastal infrastructure near the Harbour Grand Kowloon hotel.
The violent seas, driven by the Hurricane Signal No. 10, likely tore the barge from its moorings and drove it aground.
The impact toppled a nearby tower crane onto the barge's deck and shattered concrete barriers, scattering debris across the area.
The force of the collision swept away sections of the railing and stone parapet, leaving the crane leaning precariously over the damaged shoreline.
Following the collision, the barge remained pinned against the shore, with its anchor flung onto the nearby walkway.
