Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism Rosanna Law Shuk-pui emphasized the government’s commitment to revitalizing Hong Kong’s nightlife through events and tourism, amid public concerns over the city’s night economy campaigns.
Her remarks follow controversy surrounding two government campaigns, "Day x Night Vibes" and "Night Vibes Hong Kong", whose websites have not been updated. The initiatives, launched in 2023 and 2024 respectively, were also excluded from the recent Policy Address.
The tourism chief clarified that these campaigns are solely symbolic and that the government will continue to host a variety of activities both during the day and in the evening, with a strong focus on mega-events and tourism development.
Law noted that nighttime activity in the city has increased since the opening of Kai Tak Sports Park, citing over 100,000 participants in various concerts and football matches held on August 19 alone. She also observed residents dining in eateries at Kowloon City after events and highlighted that the taxi industry has reported higher earnings during major events.
When asked about the consistent implementation of the “panda economy” measures, Law stressed the importance of continuous innovation in panda-related activities and products.
Considering the enduring popularity of pandas among both residents and tourists, she expressed confidence in the panda economy’s potential, especially with the birth of twin cubs expected to attract more visitors.
