The driver, a 53-year-old man, has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving causing death and released on bail pending further investigation. The driver is to report back to the station in mid-September.
The 66-year-old man sustained serious head injuries and was rushed to the hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries despite medical efforts.
To determine the circumstances that led to the accident, police and forensic experts returned to the scene to conduct a reconstruction.
A dummy was placed at the pedestrian crossing, and the involved van was towed back to the site for the reenactment.
The reconstruction focused on testing potential blind spots, aiming to clarify whether the pedestrian was within the driver’s line of sight at the time of the incident.
The investigation remains ongoing.
