The Macau government has partnered with local chambers of commerce to inject MOP 485 million into a new consumer reward program, running from September to November. The initiative aims to stimulate local spending, support community businesses, and stabilize economic recovery during the traditional tourism off-season.
Building on the success of a similar scheme earlier this year, the Macau government has announced an expanded MOP 485 million consumer reward program to energize the local economy.
The "Macau Consumption Reward Scheme" will run for 13 weeks, from September 1 to November 30. A key feature of the new program is enhanced support for seniors and the inclusion of a new benefit for persons with disabilities.
Elderly residents aged 65 or above will see their direct discount benefit increased from MOP 300 to MOP 500. They can collect the benefit by tapping their senior citizen card at one of 100 designated service points across the city.
This year, the program introduces a new "Care Card" for eligible persons with disabilities. Those who applied for and received a disability assessment card by November 28 can collect a card with a total value of MOP 500 in instant discounts from the Social Welfare Bureau. Participants cannot claim both the senior and disability benefits.
The program also continues its popular lucky draw mechanic for all residents. From Monday to Friday, residents who make electronic payments of MOP 50 or more will earn lottery chances. Prizes are electronic vouchers ranging from MOP 10 to MOP 200, which can be used on weekends at participating merchants with a minimum spend of MOP 30.
Yau Yun-wah, Director of the Economic and Technological Development Bureau, stated that the program aims to promote local consumption, stabilize economic recovery during the upcoming low season, and boost market confidence in line with the National Games atmosphere.
He believes the initiative will serve as a vital stimulus for the community's economy.
