A motorcyclist was injured in a harrowing traffic accident in Tai Po on Thursday afternoon after attempting to filter through stationary vehicles and ending up trapped beneath a cement mixer truck.
The incident occurred at approximately 4:40pm at the intersection of Nam Wan Road and Kwong Fuk Road. Dashcam footage circulated online shows the motorcyclist weaving between cars during a red light before positioning himself directly in front of the cement truck. When the traffic light turned green, the large vehicle moved forward and knocked the rider down, pushing both rider and motorcycle several meters along the road.
The dashcam recording captures a witness exclaiming in alarm as the collision occurs: "The motorcycle is down! He can't see it, the big truck!" The motorcyclist sustained leg injuries and was transported to Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Hospital for treatment.
Online commentators heavily criticized the rider's dangerous lane-splitting maneuver, with some noting how smaller vehicles frequently "weave through blind spots of large trucks." Many expressed horror at the footage showing the cement mixer pushing the fallen rider along the pavement.
Police are investigating the circumstances and cause of the accident.
