MTR Corporation has announced special arrangements to handle the expected surge in passengers attending two major football matches at Kai Tak Sports Park this weekend.
With games scheduled for tonight and Thursday (Jul 31), the rail operator will implement several measures to ensure smooth transportation for thousands of spectators.
To manage the post-match crowds, the Tuen Ma Line will operate at increased frequency, with trains arriving every 2-3 minutes during peak dispersal times.
Additional staff will be stationed at Kai Tak and Sung Wong Toi stations, particularly around Exit D, which provides direct access to the sports venue.
The MTR has also enabled all entry gates at these stations to accept QR code and contactless payments, helping to reduce queues and speed up passenger flow.
For cross-border travelers, the MTR issued important timing reminders. The last connecting train to Lo Wu departs Tai Wai Station at 11.17pm, requiring attendees to board at Kai Tak by 11.01pm or at Sung Wong Toi by 10.59pm to make the transfer.
These arrangements account for the Lo Wu border control point's midnight closure and the East Rail Line's operating schedule.
An MTR spokesperson stated that the safety and convenience of all passengers remain their top priority, and noted that real-time monitoring would allow for any necessary service adjustments. With matches expected to conclude around 10pm, officials strongly recommend that attendees plan their return journeys in advance and follow staff guidance amid anticipated large crowds.
The transport operator has supplemented these measures with enhanced station signage and announcements to help spectators navigate the temporary service arrangements smoothly.
