The government bid farewell to China’s Shandong aircraft carrier and its naval fleet on Monday as their memorable five-day port visit concluded at the Ngong Shuen Chau Barracks.
Speaking at the ceremony, Chief Secretary for Administration Eric Chan Kwok-ki emphasized that the carrier’s visit underscored the nation’s profound commitment and unwavering support for Hong Kong.
Chan noted that Hong Kong residents had a rare opportunity to witness firsthand the nation’s first fully domestically developed aircraft carrier, showcasing China’s growing military strength and technological advancements.
“This experience will strengthen our national confidence while enhancing patriotic pride,” he said.
Meanwhile, Chan highlighted that public tours of the Shandong task group and national defense seminars served as a valuable lesson in patriotism, especially for the youth.

He expressed deep respect for the hardworking officers and soldiers of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) and the PLA Hong Kong Garrison.
“On behalf of the government and all Hong Kong citizens, I convey our most sincere wishes to all members of the aircraft carrier’s crew,” he added.
During the visit, the 315-meter-long carrier was illuminated, dazzling the city with a stunning nighttime display over Victoria Harbour.
Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu joined senior Chinese military leaders for an exclusive deck reception aboard the warship last Thursday, while hundreds of secondary school students and teachers boarded it for guided tours.
