Sun Hung Kai Properties (SHKP) flagship mall, apm, is pulling out all the stops for its 20th anniversary celebrations.
Following its "AI Robotics Technology Showcase" in March, the mall is once again making history by bringing Beijing’s first-ever robot marathon contestant— Songyan Dynamics’ Humanoid Smart Robot N2—to Hong Kong. Additionally, the Unitree Robotics’ Humanoid Robot G1has been specially programmed to take on roles as a boxing and fencing competitor in the highly anticipated "AI Sports Games" extravaganza.
The event, set on a sprawling 1,000-square-foot stage, will feature a series of thrilling exhibition matches, including boxing, long-distance running, and football showdowns, all performed by cutting-edge AI robots.
This innovative showcase not only highlights China’s latest advancements in AI technology but also celebrates the 28th anniversary of Hong Kong’s return to China, demonstrating how AI is revolutionizing entertainment and practical applications.
Maureen Fung Sau-yim, Executive Director of SHKP, shared, "Since its soft opening in March 2005, apm has been a pioneer in Hong Kong’s retail scene, constantly pushing boundaries with trendsetting initiatives like overnight World Cup screenings and citywide Olympic cheer events.
“Over the past two decades, apm has evolved into more than just a shopping mall—it’s a cultural landmark that reflects the city’s dynamic spirit. By integrating technology, entertainment, and lifestyle, we’ve redefined the shopping experience, creating a seamless day-and-night hub for innovation and fun. This ‘AI Sports Games’ showcase is our 20th-anniversary gift to Hong Kong, offering the public a rare chance to interact with China’s latest AI achievements."
One of the highlights of the event is the "AI Unitree Robot Boxing Exhibition Match," which will be attended by Hong Kong’s legendary boxer, Bomber Heung Pak-wing, who will provide expert commentary on the future of AI in sports.
Another crowd-pleaser will feature young players from the Little Lion FC going head-to-head with the "Booster T1 Robot" in a friendly football match, blending community engagement with high-tech entertainment in line with the government’s vision of "event-driven tourism."
Previously staged at Shanghai IFC and Nanjing IFC to rave reviews—even attracting interest from international venues—the Hong Kong edition of the "AI Sports Games" is set to be the largest yet.
For the first time, the event will combine sports, entertainment, and interactive experiences, including fencing and boxing demonstrations by the "Unitree G1," a high-speed football match with the "Booster T1," and a long-distance running display by the "Songyan Dynamics N2." The show will also feature martial arts performances by the "UBTECH Alpha1 Pro" and "UBTECH Wukong" robots, alongside gravity-defying flips from the "Unitree Go 2 Pro Robotic Dog," ensuring a spectacle that captivates audiences of all ages.
To mark the 28th anniversary of Hong Kong’s handover on July 1, apm will offer flash deals for The Point members whose Hong Kong ID numbers contain the digits "2" or "8." From noon onwards, eligible members can present their IDs at designated counters to receive a HK$20 dining e-voucher, adding a delicious twist to the celebrations.
Fung also provided insights into SHKP’s retail performance, noting that the group’s malls outperformed the market in the first four months of 2025, with strong growth in commercial and tourist hubs like Causeway Bay, Tsim Sha Tsui, and Central.
In neighborhood malls, particularly in the Northeast New Territories, dining and jewelry sectors led the way, while cosmetics and health products also showed steady gains.
With a vast network of malls, SHKP continues to enhance customer experiences through outdoor cafés, pet-friendly zones, themed markets, and pop-up stores. apm, strategically located near the Kai Tak Cruise Terminal, has been welcoming international tourists for over a decade while also attracting Greater Bay Area tour groups, solidifying its role as a cultural and retail hotspot.
By offering a mix of entertainment, dining, and tech-driven events, apm embodies the government’s "mega-event economy" vision, ensuring that every visit is memorable—and proving that in Hong Kong, there’s truly "no place without tourism."
