Hong Kong will host a series of events to mark the 80th anniversary of victory in the War of Resistance, including a “more solemn” ceremony on September 3, as well as joint thematic exhibitions with mainland museums.
Others include educational activities for members of the public, young people and students; free screenings of war-related films; veteran sharings; history trails; and a mini-drama series produced by the government and public broadcaster RTHK.
However, authorities will not designate September 3 as a special holiday.
Chief Secretary for Administration Eric Chan Kwok-ki said four core spirits, "remembering history, honouring martyrs, cherishing peace, and creating a great future," will guide the organization of these commemorative activities
Officials emphasize the importance of helping younger generations understand that the country’s current strength did not come easily and that they must be aware of global hegemonic threats.
