The Hong Kong Observatory (HKO) said Monday that its seismic network detected a locally felt tremor reported by residents.
Initial analysis from the observatory indicated that a shallow earthquake of magnitude 4.3 occurred at 6.48pm in Qingyuan, Guangdong.
The HKO stated that it had received over a hundred locally felt reports of the earth tremor, the duration of which was a few seconds.
Initial estimates indicated a local intensity of III (three) on the Modified Mercalli Intensity Scale, meaning it was felt indoors, with vibrations comparable to the passing of light trucks.
