Star Cruises announced its ship Star Voyager will homeport in Hong Kong starting June 27, marking a significant return to the city after three decades of operations.
The vessel will operate from the Tsim Sha Tsui Ocean Terminal until November 14, extending its seasonal presence through the autumn travel peak.
Michael Goh, president of StarCruises and Dream Cruises, said Hong Kong’s status as a regional cruise hub and its strong passenger market made it an ideal home port.
He emphasized the terminal’s prime location, offering Victoria Harbour views and proximity to the West Kowloon high-speed rail station, facilitating access for mainland Chinese travelers.
For Hong Kong, this is the city center—one of the busiest areas," Goh said. "The terminal’s connectivity enhances convenience for visitors."
The 77,000-ton Star Voyager boasts over 970 cabins and a 1,940-passenger capacity.
The extended season will feature itineraries to previously uncharted destinations, aiming to revitalize Hong Kong cruise industry.
Two- to five-night voyages will include stops in Taipei’s Keelung, Kaohsiung, Penghu in Taiwan, as well as Japan’s Okinawa Naha and Ishigaki.
Select Friday departures will offer two-night "cruises to nowhere," allowing passengers to enjoy onboard amenities.
Fares start at HK$1,200 excluding port fees and service charges.
Hong Kong Tourism Board executive director Dane Cheng Ting-yat welcomed Star Cruises’ return, pledging collaboration to promote the city as Asia’s cruise hub.
Tommy Tam Kwong-shun, chairman of the Travel Industry Council of Hong Kong, said the move reflects the sector’s competitiveness, with efforts underway to attract global travelers.
