Mainland authorities are set to terminate cargo transportation and clearance operations at Huanggang Port by the end of this year while retaining passenger services.
According to a statement released by the Office of Port of Entry and Exit of the Shenzhen Municipal People’s Government on Tuesday (Apr 29), the State Council has approved the adjustment of the port’s function, which is progressing in an orderly manner.
The office noted that authorities will address safety concerns by enhancing infrastructure, adding that the upgrade of temperature-sensitive goods inspection facilities at Liantang Port has been largely completed.
Meanwhile, the office highlighted that a dedicated task force will be established for the port’s adjustment, along with strengthened communication and coordination among various departments.
It added that mainland authorities will hold meetings with Hong Kong government departments and representatives from the city’s logistics and freight transport industry to thoroughly gather stakeholder feedback.
In addition, the office expressed hope that the port’s adjustment will facilitate the development of the Shenzhen Area of the Hetao Shenzhen-Hong Kong Science and Technology Innovation Co-operation Zone and alleviate traffic congestion at the port.
