(Video) Single-decker bus erupts in flames on Lantau, causes traffic chaos

A dramatic bus fire brought traffic to a standstill on Tung Chung Road this morning when a New Lantao Bus (NLB) single-decker suddenly burst into flames near Shek Mun Kap.

The incident occurred at 11.27am as the Route 11 bus was in service, with passengers reporting thick smoke and sparks erupting from the rear compartment before flames engulfed the vehicle. All passengers and crew evacuated safely with no injuries reported.

Eyewitness footage captured terrifying scenes as towering plumes of black smoke billowed into the air. Firefighters battled the blaze with one water jet and deployed a breathing apparatus team, extinguishing the fire by 12.14pm.

The Transport Department immediately closed all lanes of Tung Chung Road in both directions near Shek Mun Kap, suspending three bus routes including 3M, 11, and 23.

Authorities urged commuters to check real-time updates via bus company apps and warned drivers to expect significant delays.
