Hongkong Electric Company, in collaboration with the Hong Kong National Games Coordination Office, the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department, and other government agencies, successfully completed a cross-departmental emergency power restoration drill last Wednesday at Victoria Park.
This exercise was a preparatory step for the upcoming 15th National Games' beach volleyball test event, scheduled from April 18 to 20.
The drill was designed to ensure a robust response to any potential power failures during the event. It involved two main scenarios.

Initially, the simulation addressed a malfunction at a fixed power supply point within Victoria Park, which impacted the electricity supply to both the competition venue and its logistical units. Engineers from Hongkong Electric, who were on standby, quickly isolated the faulty device and activated a pre-planned backup power restoration strategy to minimize downtime.
The second scenario tested the failure of the backup power supply itself. In response, Hongkong Electric deployed a Green Mobile Emergency Power Supply unit that was also on standby. With a simple cable connection, this unit provided temporary power, ensuring that the competition could proceed without significant interruptions.

The entire exercise lasted approximately four hours, during which both power restoration tasks were successfully executed. Hongkong Electric Company has committed to ongoing discussions with various government departments to further refine these contingency plans, ensuring the smooth operation of the upcoming National Games and other events.
