A 27-year-old man was sentenced to 14 years behind bars at the High Court for slashing a drug case defendant outside the Kwun Tong Magistrates' Courts in 2023.
The Pakistani man, Faizan Ali Khan, pleaded guilty to one count of wounding with intent and one count of procession of dangerous drugs.
In sentencing remarks, High Court Judge Amanda Jane Woodcock said the 33-year-old victim remains physically impaired to this day, with persistent pain from his wounds, and is unable to work as a driver after undergoing amputation.
The judge considered the defendant’s premeditated crime, motivated by money and involving brutal harm to a stranger, as a severe aggravating factor warranting strong deterrence.
Woodcock handed down a 21-year jail sentence for wounding and a six-month jail sentence for drug trafficking. The sentence was knocked down to 14 years and four months to be served concurrently due to his guilty plea.
The court has heard that Khan followed the victim, who left the Kwun Tong Magistrates' Courts after drug charges were lifted against him, on January 19, 2023, and slashed him in his back and both legs, in exchange for HK$100,000.
In mitigation, the defense said Khan expressed deep remorse after the incident, saying he committed the crime due to mounting debt pressure to cover medical expenses for his father, who had suffered a stroke.
