The two-day HSBC Hong Kong Community Festival, held at the Central Market, attracted over 10,000 attendees this weekend to engaged with 31 intergenerational community projects representing all 18 districts of Hong Kong.
The Hongkong Bank Foundation also unveiled a new youth development initiative at the opening ceremony to cultivate a growth mindset and exhance opportunities for local youth.
The initiative aims to equip 16,000 students—ranging from sub-degree programs to secondary schools—with essential skills and perspectives necessary to succeed in a rapidly changing world through a series of workshops and volunteer opportunities.
The ceremony also recognized five exemplary projects from the 2024 HSBC Community Partnership Program, alongside the top project from the Smart Community Hackathon.
The "Outstanding Creativity Award" was presented to The Hong Kong Chinese Christian Churches Union; the "Outstanding Climate Advocate Award" was awarded to Redress; the "Outstanding FinFit Project Award" went to the Hong Kong Family Welfare Society; the "Outstanding Future Skills Award" was granted to SLCO Community Resources; and the "Outstanding Community Engagement Award" was awarded to Evangelical Lutheran Church Social Service - Hong Kong.
Moreover, the "Most Outstanding Project Award" from the Smart Community Hackathon was conferred upon Aberdeen Technical School.
Peter Wong Tung-shun, chairman of the Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited and the Hongkong Bank Foundation, stated at the ceremony, “Over the past year, the HSBC Hong Kong Community Partnership Programme has supported 31 projects, benefiting 430,000 individuals, which is double the number of beneficiaries recorded in 2023.”
He added that as the Bank celebrates its 160th anniversary, it is pleased to launch a new initiative to empower 16,000 young people.
In collaboration with the Hong Kong Council of Social Service, the HSBC Hong Kong Community Partnership Program committed HK$18 million in 2024 to fund 31 projects led by 29 NGOs.
As for the Hongkong Bank Foundation, it has invested over HK$280 million into more than 1,400 community projects since its inception.
