Vice Minister of Public Security Chen Siyuan pledged to strengthen cooperation with global law enforcement as well as police in Hong Kong and Macau in combating international scams and cross-border frauds.
Citing that Hong Kong has a good cooperation mechanism among telecom companies, the finance sector and police, Chen highlighted the importance of a greater integration of resources across different parties in fraud crackdowns.
Regarding victims lured and kidnapped to Myanmar, Chen said only through international cooperation can law enforcements around the world maximize their efforts to capture and prosecute the criminals.
The security official disagreed that the masterminds behind these scams are predominantly from mainland China, saying that such crimes are widespread globally.
“Regardless of whether these perpetrators are in mainland China or overseas, there are corresponding laws that can be enforced to combat them,” said Chen.
