The Transport and Logistics Bureau has proposed the development of a digitalized Port Community System (PCS), which will be discussed at the Legislative Council on Tuesday (Mar 4) for funding approval of HK$215 million.
In a video post on social media on Monday, the Bureau noted that the government plans to complete the PCS by the end of this year, with funding expected to be granted by the end of March.
According to a document submitted to LegCo, the system will feature a one-stop round-the-clock real-time cargo tracking that links sea, land, and air transportation information in the cargo delivery process.
PCS will also include analysis and alert functions to send notifications to users in specific situations, enabling them to manage issues, along with a one-data-multiple-declarations function to assist cargo owners in making trade declarations for goods.
The Bureau estimated PCS will serve approximately 50,000 users, including maritime, logistics, and trading establishments in Hong Kong.
The system is anticipated to serve as an important digital infrastructure to facilitate the flow and sharing of data among the maritime and port industries, further solidifying Hong Kong's role as an international maritime center, the Bureau added.
