Two dead cats, wrapped in plastic bag, found in Yuen Long village

Two dead cats wrapped in a plastic bag were found on Friday in a Yuen Long village - the same place where a cat's head was discovered at a ritual offering site two days ago.

Police received a report on Friday that a plastic bag with two dead cats inside was found in a catchwater near Sheung Yau Tin Tsuen.

Police officers initially classified the case as animal cruelty, and later reclassified the case as animal carcasses found. The investigation was handed to detectives of the Yuen Long police district.

A spokesman of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals said they also received reports of the case.

The spokesman said the catchwater where the two dead cats were found was about 84 meters away from a ritual offering site where a cat's head was found.

He said the cause of the cats’ death is suspicious and urged members of the public with relevant information to contact the SPCA on 2711 1000.

The spokesman also said police should see this case as an animal cruelty case, with offenders punishable by up to three years in jail and a fine of HK$200,000.
