The US Postal Service's suspension of accepting packages from China and Hong Kong and then making an abrupt U-turn on Wednesday, is like a rollercoaster ride, Hong Kong Shippers’ Council chairman Willy Lin Sun-mo said, as he urged Hongkongers to hold off on sending packages until the situation becomes clearer.
On a radio program this morning, Lin expressed concerns about the USPS’s inconsistent stance and the resulting confusion.
“How will customs duties be managed? Is the 10 percent duty charged to the purchaser, or is the sending company responsible for it?” he questioned.
USPS made an abrupt U-turn last night to resume acceptance of international inbound shipments from China and Hong Kong less than 24 hours after announcing a suspension.
Lin estimated that there will still be uncertainties in the short term, depending on the US Customs and Border Protection’s actions.
