Starting today, the TD will provide vehicle owners who have successfully renewed their VL with a notice indicating the new validity period of the license. Subsequently, a VL will be issued without an expiry date printed on it. This means that as long as the vehicle's details, such as registration mark and body color, remain unchanged, the same VL can be used after each renewal.
Additionally, a new QR code has been added to the top of the VL, allowing vehicle owners to conveniently check the expiry date by scanning the code and accessing the TD's VL Online Enquiry Platform.
Significant changes have also been made to the VL renewal application process. From today, vehicle owners no longer need to present the Vehicle Registration Document or the Certificate of Roadworthiness after their vehicle passes the examination.
For online VL renewal applications, the verification of third-party risks insurance will be handled through the backend support of the Hong Kong Federation of Insurers (HKFI), eliminating the need for vehicle owners to upload their policy of insurance.
A TD spokesperson explained that with these enhancements, there is no need for vehicle owners to replace the VL displayed on their vehicle's windscreen. The department will also send renewal reminders to vehicle owners via the electronic contact details provided, prior to the expiry of their VLs.
These new measures are designed to expedite the renewal process and enhance the overall experience for vehicle owners, the spokesperson added.
