Police statistics showed that the number of traffic accidents involving pedestrians on Hong Kong Island decreased by 11 percent from January to October 2024.

According to the police's Hong Kong Island Regional Headquarters, accidents involving pedestrians dropped to 519 cases from 581 cases compared to last year.
The number of accidents involving fatalities or serious injuries of pedestrians has also dropped to 97 cases in the period of time, a 24 percent decrease from 128 cases.
Officers stated that the majority of accidents stem from driver negligence, a lack of attentiveness to road conditions and blind spots. They also pointed out that pedestrians frequently stray from designated crossing for convenience and sometimes step into vehicle blind spots.
