A traffic accident occurred in Pok Fu Lam early Monday morning after a driver lost control of his vehicle, resulting in his hospitalization.
At around 5 am today, a Mercedes-Benz was navigating Victoria Road when the 90-year-old driver lost control as he approached a left turn. The car crossed into the opposite traffic lane, mounted the sidewalk, and collided with roadside railings and a lamppost before crashing into the outer wall of an LPG gas station warehouse.
The car then flipped to the right and came to rest between a lamppost and a stone wall, with half of the vehicle suspended in the air.
The driver could not open the door and was trapped inside the car. The firefighters used tools to cut through the car and stabilize the vehicle with brackets.
During the rescue, the driver was given a firefighter's helmet to wear to prevent further injury. He was eventually extracted through the sunroof of the car. He reported experiencing chest pain and was sent to the hospital for treatment.
It is understood that the 90-year-old regularly drives to Deep Water Bay for morning swims. After swimming today, he was driving alone when the accident occurred.
