A flight from Hong Kong to Fukuoka, Japan, has to be diverted to Taoyuan International Airport in Taiwan on Sunday morning due to a suspected fuel leak.
The Hong Kong Airlines flight HX640 took off from Hong Kong International Airport at approximately 9:30 AM and was scheduled to arrive at Fukuoka Airport at 2:00 PM local time. Passengers were informed of the fuel leak at around 11:30 AM, shortly before landing in Taipei around noon.
The crew explained that inspection and maintenance were required for a detected fuel leak, while passengers were requested to remain in their seats though the plane had landed.
Passengers were arranged to get off the plane around 2.30 pm and transported by shuttle to a boarding area, where they had to go through security checks.
Hong Kong Airlines said the 13 crew members and 283 passengers on board were safe and sound, and the company has arranged hotel rooms for the affected travelers.
The Fukuoka Airport website shows that the flight has been canceled, and each passenger was compensated with a meal voucher worth NT$250.
