East Kowloon green smart mass transit system project draws 35 bids

The Highways Department (HyD) received a total of 35 expressions of interest from suppliers and operators for the smart and green mass transit system (SGMTS) project in East Kowloon.

This came after the government aimed to invite tenders for the project in 2026 and award the works contract the following year.

The submission deadline for the project's expression of interest (EOI) ended on Thursday, and the 35 bids came from local, mainland, and overseas companies. 

A HyD spokesman stated that the market's intentions and capabilities from feedback collected from the EOIs will serve as a reference for ascertaining the technical details including alignment, delivery mode and financial arrangements of the project.

Additionally, the spokesperson said the authorities will review the viability of compressing the program in various stages, from planning and design to construction, to shorten the overall program of the project further.
