Eight new public piers planned in the Pier Improvement Programme (PIP) are expected to complete construction by next year, according to the Development Bureau.
Bernadette Linn Hon-ho, Secretary for Development said Sunday that two of 23 piers that PIP covers have already been put into operation, including the Kau Sai Village Pier which was commissioned last Saturday (Sep 28).
Ten piers are currently under construction, with eight of them including Sham Chung Pier and Lai Chi Chong Pier, expected to be completed between the end of this year and next year.
She added that Yung Shue Wan Public Pier and Sai Wan Jetty at Cheung Chau are estimated to be completed by 2026, while improvement works of Tai O Public Pier will commence at the end of this year.
Additionally, Linn pointed out that PIP aims to facilitate the travel of residents and tourists in remote areas and the operational needs of fishermen, as well as support the development of sustainable tourism.
