The family of the late marine police chief inspector Lam Yuen-yee, who died during an operation in 2021, filed a lawsuit in the High Court seeking compensation from the police.
The writ states Lam went missing after a collision occurred at Sha Chau while she was on duty on September 25, 2021, with her body found at sea just off Yi O two days later.
The family claimed the accident was caused by negligence, breach of duty of care, violation of employment contract, and breach of statutory duties by the defendant and its employees.
The plaintiff, Lam Tim-po, is the administrator of the estate of the deceased Lam Yuen-yee. The defendant is the Commissioner of Police, with legal representation from the Department of Justice.
As the estate administrator of the deceased, the plaintiff is claiming damages and legal fees on behalf of the interests of Lam's family and estate under the Fatal Accidents Ordinance and relevant laws, but without specifying the amount in the claim.
