Hong Kong, China Automobile Association honorary life president Ringo Lee Yiu-pui said on Wednesday that the fatal accident on Shenzhen Bay Bridge could have been caused by a road sign, with the sign launching the vehicle off the bridge like a ramp.
Investigations are still underway over the death of a 46-year-old customs officer whose vehicle hurtled off the bridge on his way to work at the checkpoint on Monday night. The vehicle was fished out around noon yesterday. It was the most serious accident on the 5.5-kilometer bridge since it had opened to traffic in 2007.

Commenting on the incident this morning, Lee said the vehicle driven by the officer could have rammed into a road sign placed on the side of the road, with the sign lifting the car upwards as it was run over by the car.
There is a chance that the sign acted as a ramp and launched the vehicle off the bridge, said Lee.
Meanwhile, Lee proposed another possibility is that the front left wheel of the car could have come off after the collision, causing the vehicle to flip and roll over the fence.
