To celebrate seniors availing HK$2 discount with the JoyYou card, Octopus Cards Limited announced the introduction of the "828 JoyYou Fest" with a total cashback of HK$8.28 million up for grabs in two weeks.
Starting from Wednesday (Aug 28) to September 10, JoyYou card holders can receive an HK$8 cash rebate for every HK$100 spent at participating merchants, with a maximum rebate of up to HK$800 per user.
Cardholders can collect their rebate by tapping their cards via the Octopus Mobile App or at Octopus Service Points starting this Saturday.
Over 60 participating merchants -- including well-known chains like Café de Coral, PARKnSHOP, and Japan Home Center -- will also offer flash bargains at over 3,500 consumption sites.
The company mentioned that the offers are tailored to the preferences of elderly customers, who contribute HK$2 billion in retail consumption each month. It added that the promotion aims to boost consumer spending and there could be a chance for the JoyYou Fest to become an annual event.
Octopus also plans to introduce a virtual JoyYou card that can be used on smartphones and smartwatches in the fourth quarter of this year, expanding the usage of the cards from transportation to local purchases.
Lawmaker Peter Shiu Ka-fai stated that 31.4 percent of citizens use the JoyYou Card and he looks forward to the event and the growing user base could bring new business opportunities to various sectors.
