A police officer was injured in a police chase on Friday night when a suspicious vehicle pursued by the force tried to smash his way through a roadblock in a residential area of Ho Man Tin.
A video circulating online shows officers with their guns drawn and batons out as they approach the vehicle after it was forced to a stop upon reaching the front of a line of cars halted before the roadblock on Princess Margaret Road at around 8.30 pm.
Officers can be heard ordering the driver to pull over and step out of the vehicle, but the driver refuses to cooperate and suddenly accelerates in an attempt to squeeze between two vehicles. Yet he fails and gets stuck.
He then reverses and slams into a police officer standing behind the car and crashes into another vehicle. The driver is eventually arrested after officers smashed the windows of the car and subdued him.
It is understood that the vehicle was first spotted by the police in Wong Tai Sin, triggering the police chase after he fled the scene in the direction of West Kowloon.
Sources said suspected illegal drugs were found inside the vehicle.
The officer hit by the vehicle was brought to Queen Elizabeth Hospital due to injuries in his abdomen, while a woman driver at the scene whose car was rammed by the arrestee was also hospitalized due to a neck injury.
