The Buildings Department said the approved plans include the construction of three residential buildings, each 21 stories high, along with a two-story clubhouse, covering over 480,000 square feet.
In a statement, the HKJC said the site was originally designated for residential use. In the 1980s, the club opted to develop the land into a sports complex, which has since operated under temporary planning permission for recreational facilities.
The Town Planning Board noted that the HKJC should actively implement the original intent of the land for residential development.
When applying for an extension of the land use this year, the HKJC agreed to develop the site for residential purposes while also incorporating sports and recreational facilities, though further studies will be conducted.
