A 7-seater suffered the same fate in just four hours after a taxi got stuck at a roadwork site on Johnston Road in Wan Chai this morning.
The work site involved a section of about four meters of tram tracks, with a hole dug about one foot deep. A sign was put up warning that vehicles other than trams are not allowed to enter.
A taxi heading west on Johnston Road at 9 am this morning mistakenly entered a construction site and got trapped, disrupting tram services.
It was learned that the taxi driver was following a tram and the driver said he saw neither the roadworks nor the sign, leading to the taxi's front wheel getting trapped in the hole after the tram passed.
Unexpectedly, police received another report at 1.36 pm that a 7-seater had its wheels stuck by the same hole.
No one was injured in the incident.
Some online commenters joked that "history repeats itself." Others questioned why the roadwork was not carried out at night when there were fewer vehicles.
Some netizens blamed the poor road design, while others criticized the drivers for not paying attention, saying they should have seen the clearly visible barriers and road closure signs.
