The government plans to provide about 10,000 public and private housing units near the new Pak Shek Kok MTR station by 2033, according to sources.
This comes after the Development Bureau previously envisioned that the station itself would not include any residential or commercial developments above it, and would only house facilities directly related to railway operations.
However, the Bureau left open the possibility of developing the surrounding land, stating that it would depend on the station's exact location.
The target completion date for the station is before 2033.
Apart from the residential units, community facilities like elderly day care centers, medical centers, and a public transport interchange are also in the plan.
Some local groups have expressed concerns about the impact of public housing development on surrounding property prices.
The five-hectare station site is currently occupied by the Education University of Hong Kong's sports center, which will be relocated.
The government and MTR Corporation have been working on the land development and station construction plans, with the aim of initiating the statutory town planning process by next year.
