The Hospital Authority said it was very concerned over an incident that saw medication obtained from a public hospital resold via online shopping platform HKTVmall, adding it will take serious follow-up actions.
The incident came to light after a user of online forum LIHKG shared that she had purchased the medication in July, and was concerned about its quality.
The female netizen, who claimed she was 38 weeks pregnant at the time, complained that she received lactulose, a laxative that she ordered on HKTVmall, with a patient’s name and other information indicating it was from Hong Kong Buddhist Hospital, according to a photo circulating online.
She suspected there have been individuals reselling public hospital medication online, while she was also worried about the quality of the medication and whether it would affect her baby.
The product is currently removed from HKTVmall, with the online shopping platform saying they are currently investigating the incident.
Meanwhile, a Hospital Authority spokesman said on Monday night that the statutory body was very concerned about the incident.
“The authority reminds residents that they should not resell or pass the drugs for others’ use. It will certainly follow up on the issue in a serious manner and pass it to law enforcement agencies if any illegal activities are found,” he said.
