China condemns US for slandering HK's governance

The Commissioner's Office of China's Foreign Ministry in Hong Kong strongly condemned the US consulate general in Hong Kong for slandering the city's democratic situation. 

A spokesperson for the Office said on Saturday that the US consulate general in Hong Kong used the opportunity to criticize the central government's policy towards Hong Kong when the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) discussed the adoption of the report on China's participation in the fourth Universal Periodic Review. 

The Office pointed out that under the protection of the national security law in Hong Kong and the new electoral system, the HKSAR has taken on a new look of good governance, and the law has fully protected the rights and freedoms enjoyed by the people, and the practice of "one country, two systems" has returned to the right track. 

It noted that Hong Kong still ranks high among authoritative international organizations, maintaining its unique position and advantages. Business communities around the world are confident in the city's development prospects. 

The spokesperson stressed that the US consulate general in Hong Kong had disregarded the status quo of the development of the HKSAR and the mainstream consensus of the international community, blatantly violated the relevant provisions of the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations, once again made irresponsible remarks on Hong Kong affairs, fully exposed its dark mentality of not wanting to see Hong Kong prosper. 

It recommended that the US abandon the delusion of "using Hong Kong to contain China", abide by the principle of international law of non-interference in internal affairs and the basic norms of international relations, and immediately stop interfering in Hong Kong affairs.
