HK Express has confirmed after investigation that a photo circulating online of its staff eating egg tarts they had confiscated from passengers to be true, causing outrage among netizens.

The photo was initially posted on Instagram but went viral on Facebook with the caption exclaiming how much the passengers must truly love egg tarts.
It also states in the photo that the passengers' tarts had been confiscated, along with the message that outside food is prohibited.
Several staff members with staff cards hanging from their necks can be seen opening the boxes of egg tarts.
The photo sparked outrage online with netizens blasting the staffers, saying that even though the food is banned, it doesn't mean that they can eat it.
Some people suspected it was fake news because they said even though they have seen the rules, they've never actually seen anyone confiscating food.
HK Express responded to media inquiries and said that it is very concerned about the incident and has already requested the subcontractor for the ground crew to investigate.
An internal investigation by the subcontractor has confirmed that one member of the ground crew violated internal guidelines on handling prohibited food brought by passengers.
HK Express said it regrets the incident and has already reviewed the code of conduct with its staff. The involved groud crew member will be internally disciplined, the airline added.
The airine also said it has requested the subcontractor to strengthen internal training to ensure that all staff members comply to the standards of HK Express.
