Roden Tong Man-lung has been elected as the new president of the Law Society of Hong Kong, succeeding Chan Chak-ming on Tuesday.
Tong has been the vice president of the Society since 2021 - the same year Chan was elected to head the group. Chan decided to step down from presidency after his third one-year term.
Tong, formerly worked in a private practice and later joined a multinational insurance enterprise as a corporate lawyer, was elected to the Society's 20-strong council in 2016, and promoted to vice president in 2021.
He stressed that the Law Society will remain politically neutral as well as independent and autonomous.
Tong also expressed full confidence in the members of the Court, their independence, and their determination to uphold the rule of law.
Amirali Nasir, Christopher Yu Kwok-kin, and Wong Hau-yan were elected as vice presidents today.
