A worker was severely wounded after a concrete mixer overturned and crushed his lower body in Chek Lap Kok.
At 1.22 pm today, a cement mixer flipped on its side at the Hong Kong International Airport Third Runway worksite, trapping the driver and fracturing his pelvis.
Paramedics arrived at the scene and attempted to rescue the trapped worker by sawing through the mixer.
Rescue workers were also called to the scene by his colleagues, who pried the mud flaps of the vehicle and rescued the worker.
He was, fortunately, still conscious and was taken to Princess Margaret Hospital for medical attention after suffering from a fractured pelvis and a leg injury.
The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
A video of the accident was leaked online, which showed the trapped man, surnamed Yau, aged 30, not being able to move and moaning in pain as the rescue workers attempted to rescue him.
His colleague was also seen recording the incident and talking about it.
It is understood that it was lunch time when Yau drove the cement mixer to the site, where he parked the vehicle on a slope, got off and stood on the right side of the vehicle to wait.
Unexpectedly, the cement mixer suddenly fell to the right.
It is considered possible that the soft soil at the scene may have caused the vehicle to overturn.
