The elite event that will be held two days later (Mar 24) follows the Sprint Distance format, and competitors will start from Wan Chai Promenade.
Athletes will first swim 750 meters, then switch to cycling 20 kilometers, and finally end the event by running five kilometers.
Triathlete Jason “Hardcastle” Ng Tai-long, a representative of the Hong Kong team that won the bronze medal at the Hangzhou Asian Games, is looking forward to the event, saying that games rarely take place in the middle of the city, which feels very special.
As for the traffic accident he encountered during training a few weeks ago, he said he is now close to recovery. He added he is currently focused on his training, and will enjoy competing with world-class players.
Bailee Brown, the female representative of the Hong Kong team, said that this competition has been the most difficult one since she started the sport because of the gathering of experts, and she said she would try her best to do well.
About 60 world-class players are participating in the men's and women's events, respectively.
Hong Kong team triathlon head coach Andrew James Wright said that the athletes performed well during recent training, and since the competition is held in Hong Kong, there will be high expectations for the local athletes.
