A 53-year-old woman will appear at Shatin Magistrates’ Courts on Thursday after she was charged by the ICAC for trying to bribe a driving examiner with a mooncake voucher worth over HK$400 to get a pass in the test.
Li Zhengchun faces one count of offering an advantage to a public servant. She has been released on ICAC bail.
Li took the private car driving test at the department’s Driving Test Centre at Hong Kong School of Motoring (Sha Tin) on September 14, 2023, when Mid-Autumn Festival was approaching.
She failed the parking test and allegedly offered a mooncake voucher worth over HK$400 to the examiner in a bid to get a pass, which was then put on record by the examiner and reported to the department.
The corruption complaint was referred to the ICAC the same day and officers immediately came to the Driving Test Centre arresting Li on the spot.
ICAC extended gratitude towards the department for its full assistance during the investigation into the case.
ICAC also warns that bribery is a serious criminal offense and reminds citizens not to offer bribes to civil servants in exchange for assistance or favor.
