Part of the Carpenter Road Park and walkways will be temporarily closed to the public starting Monday due to the first phase of the revitalization works.
Writing in his blog on Sunday, Urban Renewal Authority (URA) managing director Wai Chi-sing said the entire project will involve 34,000 square meters and be divided into two phases, while the first will commence tomorrow.
The first phase of revitalization will be completed by the end of 2026, while the new government complex to relocate the facilities of the Kowloon City market as well as the municipal services building is targeted to be completed by 2027.
The revitalized Carpenter Road Park will feature an elevated cycling path, more children's play facilities, and outdoor fitness equipment. The park is expected to be reopened for public use in the middle of 2027 at the earliest.
Wai said two temporary pedestrian walkways will be provided around construction areas, and works that may generate higher levels of noise will be avoided during school hours and public examinations.
The URA chief continued that authorities maintain close communication with park users, local groups, residents' organizations, and the Thai community to minimize the impact of the project on the surrounding citizens and students.
About HK$700 million fund has been allocated for the revitalization, while the acquisition of property titles in the Nga Tsin Wai Road/Carpenter Road development scheme will be carried out in the first half of this year, Wai added.
He stated that the authority will continue to invest more than HK$10 billion in the development project over the next six to seven years to achieve wider planning gains for the community through redevelopment and integration of other urban renewal initiatives.
